Campaigning to save our music heritage
With popular music venues under threat, music tourism underdeveloped, and our music history under-appreciated, I founded Music Heritage UK a charity dedicated to promoting, protecting, and preserving our rich popular musical heritage.
Part of our role was supporting grassroots initiatives and fan-led campaigns – notably we were part of the Save Denmark Street campaign and supported East London grassroots music venue the George Tavern in their fight to keep their doors open. We also supported the development of music tourism by working with UK Music on their major report, Imagine.
The charity has been wound up, but the work continues. I am currently working on the development of an interactive music map to promote the musical history and tell the stories of bands and musical scenes across the country.
